Atlanta selects Kyle Pitts

The scenario where Atlanta grabs Kyle Pitts at No. 4 is the most likely to happen in my mind. He is arguably the best overall player in this year’s draft, and the Falcons have so many holes to fill that they would certainly benefit from adding such a talent.

This is especially true now that whispers are growing louder about a potential Julio Jones trade. If such a decision is made after June 1, the Falcons need another star on offense who can make eye-popping plays and Pitts fits the bill.

How does this affect the Carolina Panthers?

The Carolina Panthers had a low chance of acquiring Pitts before the Jones speculation. If the Falcons don’t take him, one assumes either the Miami Dolphins or the Detroit Lions will.

However, this scenario means that two out of the five top quarterbacks in the draft are still available. This could be Justin Fields, Trey Lance, or Mac Jones, assuming three signal-callers are taken with the first three picks, which is the safest assumption you could ever make at this point.

It’s then safe to guess that the Cincinnati Bengals and the Dolphins will pass on a quarterback with their first-round picks. So, barring a big trade at picks 5-7, the Panthers have the opportunity to acquire another young prospect at the position this offseason.

Would they? It hasn’t been ruled out.

Should they? That’s extremely debatable, though as a fan it would be exciting to see happen.

The scenario where the Falcons select Pitts would potentially allow the Panthers to have a fantastic shot at grabbing a quarterback at No. 8 to either compete with Sam Darnold or turn the former New York Jet into trade bait for a needy team post-draft.

This of course depends on the Falcons choosing the best available player rather than a quarterback themselves, which leads to the next possible scenario.
