Brady Christensen – Carolina Panthers OT

  • 3rd round – No. 70 overall

Getting someone who was capable of providing adequate blindside protection was absolutely vital for the Carolina Panthers during the 2021 NFL Draft. They opted not to take one in the first round – although that might have been a different story had Penei Sewell fallen into their laps – and fans began to get restless when the team opted to trade down in the second rather than select a potentially premier talent with a high grade.

They didn’t have to worry for much longer. The Panthers traded up in the third round to acquire Brady Christensen, who enjoyed a phenomenal campaign for BYU in 2020 protecting Zach Wilson’s edge en route to the quarterback becoming the No., 2 overall selection.

Christensen gained a historical 96.0 grade from Pro Football Focus last season. This was the highest mark ever given to a college offensive lineman, eclipsing the mark attained by Sewell in 2019.

The step-up in class is going to be significant and something Christensen needs to be ready for. However, he is a high character individual who has enough in the way of power and technique to more than hold his own, so the Panthers might have a steal on their hands if he is the player they hope he will be.

If Christensen can solidify the left side and provide a bookend presence opposite stud right tackle Taylor Moton, then it will be yet another big shot in the arm for Sam Darnold.
