Keith Taylor – Carolina Panthers CB

  • Round No. 5 (Pick No. 166)
  • 2021 role – Rotational cornerback

The Carolina Panthers really struggled in press coverage last season, which was one of the more frustrating elements to a defense that did show some promise down the stretch. This is an area they addressed in no uncertain terms during the draft with the additions of Keith Taylor to go along with No. 8 overall selection Jaycee Horn.

Taylor might not be considered as polished as the South Carolina product. But he has all the necessary length and athleticism to help in press cover situations.

The Panthers also have Donte Jackson and A.J. Bouye picking up the slack. However, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Washington stud move above Troy Pride Jr. and Stantley Thomas-Oliver on the depth chart on Day 1.

Daviyon Nixon – Carolina Panthers DT

  • Round No. 5 (Pick No. 158)
  • 2021 role – Key rotational piece

Not many defensive tackles in the 2021 NFL Draft have proven tape of taking over games like Daviyon Nixon. So this could be incredible value for the Panthers if the prospect hits the ground running.

Carolina has DaQuan Jones, Bravvion Roy, and three-technique Morgan Fox as additional options to go alongside the formidable Derrick Brown. However, Nixon arrives in the NFL with a substantial amount of upside and this should see him emerge as a key piece of the rotation during his rookie season.

Whether this will be right away or not remains to be seen. But he should see plenty of reps by the end of the campaign.
