Which Carolina Panthers players now find themselves on the roster bubble following the 2021 NFL Draft?

This is always an uncertain time of year for those on the fringes of NFL rosters. Veteran players will be nervously looking over their shoulders as the latest batch of college recruits look to impose themselves on the next level, which also rings true for the Carolina Panthers after they managed to secure no fewer than 11 picks during the 2021 NFL Draft.

Scott Fitterer was extremely active in the trade market regarding picks, getting additional capital this year, and also getting back the fourth-rounder they are giving the New York Jets in 2022 as part of the Sam Darnold trade. Only time will tell as to whether these selections will translate to solid contributions on the field, but the whole approach from the new regime was a breath of fresh air.

It promises to be an intriguing training camp for the Panthers, who have a roster loaded with young, hungry talent that should bring the best out of one another. Those in power are set for some big decisions in the not-too-distant future as the team looks to make further strides in the second year of Matt Rhule’s reign and potentially enter the playoff picture if everything clicks into place.

With this in mind, here are four Panthers players who now find themselves on the roster bubble following the 2021 NFL Draft.

Trenton Scott – Carolina Panthers OT

Trenton Scott arrived at the Panthers relatively late during the 2020 season, which is never easy no matter how experienced a player is. However, what we saw from the tackle when he was thrust into a starting role down the stretch didn’t exactly leave many reasons to be encouraged he was going to be a potential long-term solution to an ongoing problem.

Scott was surprisingly given a one-year extension by the Panthers to compete for a spot on the 53-man roster, at the very least. However, the team’s decision to trade up into the third round for BYU’s Brady Christensen reduces his chances of being around by the competitive action gets underway.

There is also the possibility of Carolina getting another veteran on the free-agent market, with a couple of names representing a real upgrade. Getting the protection right is going to be crucial in order for Sam Darnold to shine in a different environment, but whether Scott enters their mind remains to be seen.
