Dynamic players aplenty in Panthers 53-man roster prediction post-draft
By David Giroux
Carolina Panthers DEs
- Brian Burns, Haason Reddick, Yetur Gross-Matos, Marquis Haynes, Morgan Fox ,Christian Miller.
What was considered a weakness a year or two ago, now might be the strongest position group for the Carolina Panthers. Brian Burns and Haason Reddick will form the most disruptive edge rushing duo in recent memory. Both are athletic and fast players coming off their best seasons and career highs in sacks.
Behind them is last year’s second-round pick Yetur Gross-Matos. The former Penn State standout will be looking to build off his injury riddled rookie campaign by providing the Panthers with pass rushing and run stopping ability from inside and outside.
Marquis Haynes will look to build off a four-sack season and adds more fire to the pass rushing group. The newly acquired Morgan Fox will be played all over the defensive line, showing ability to generate pressure on the edge or as a three-technique on the interior.
After opting out in 2020, Christian Miller along with the surprising Austin Larkin will each look to carve out a role in the pass rushing rotation during camp.
Carolina Panthers DTs
- Derrick Brown, DaQuan Jones, Daviyon Nixon, Bravvion Roy.
Defensive tackle was considered a huge need a couple weeks before the draft. But with two huge additions the room looks rounded out.
Derrick Brown will look to build off his impressive rookie year as the undisputed No. 1 for the Panthers. Next to him will be the newly acquired veteran DaQuan Jones, who was very productive during his tenure with the Tennessee Titans and offers run stopping and pass rushing ability from the inside.
Behind them is this year’s fifth-round pick Daviyon Nixon who might be the steal of the 2021 draft. Off the field concerns dropped his stock he offers something a little bit different alongside along Bravvion Roy from the inside. Seventh round pick Phil Hoskins will also look to find a spot on the roster during training camp.
