Jaycee Horn will win the No. 1 CB job in training camp

Now this one is bold because the Carolina Panthers already have Donte Jackson as their No. 1 cornerback, and they acquired former Pro Bowler A.J. Bouye earlier in the offseason. Not to mention most teams don’t like rolling out a rookie as their go-to cover guy considering how many struggle to adjust against bigger and faster wide receivers that punish every mistake.

Jaycee Horn just brings a different mentality than most rookies you see coming out of college. This could be due to the fact that his father Joe Horn, former New Orleans Saints wide receiver, started prepping him at a young age to handle the spotlight.

But it’s not just his dad being an ex-NFL star that makes Horn different.

His unique mix of size and athleticism make him a prototypical build for a No. 1 cornerback. The alpha dog mentality Horn brings to game-day also gives reason to believe he’ll come in and win the starting job.

This is no easy task, but Horn is up to it. Carolina clearly thinks a lot of the prospect, who was top of their big board heading into the draft, with his ability to lock down in press coverage something that was sorely lacking on Phil Snow’s defense in 2020.

This mentality is a big reason the Panthers took him in the draft, and I’m excited to see how it translates to Sundays.
