Dan Morgan makes Carolina Panthers a front office powerhouse
By Dean Jones
The appointment of former linebacker Dan Morgan as an assistant general manager makes the Carolina Panthers a front office powerhouse moving forward.
To say the Carolina Panthers made a popular move by bringing former linebacker Dan Morgan back home would be something of an understatement. The new assistant general manager to Scott Fitterer has acquired a wealth of experience behind the scenes since retiring from the NFL and has a glowing reputation across league circles thanks to his tireless work ethic and ability to spot talent.
Fitterer and Morgan are no strangers to one another after spending time working closely on the Seattle Seahawks staff. This obviously played a major factor in his arrival from the Buffalo Bills, but considering the affection to which the Pro Bowler is still held in Carolina, this makes a ton of sense for so many reasons.
The hard work starts now for Morgan, who will look to make a telling contribution to a front office that has made a really positive impression during the offseason. Speaking to the team’s official website, his admiration for Fitterer is evident and should allow the duo to hit the ground running on their way to another successful working relationship in Carolina.
"“He was very helpful to me when I first got there. All those guys were really good with me early on, but he took me under his wing when I was new and was willing to let me pick his brain about college scouting and what he did. He’s good at a lot of things, but first and foremost, he’s just a great guy.”"
Carolina Panthers are moving with purpose this offseason.
There is a real sense of collective purpose across the Panthers at the present time. Although things will ultimately be judged by on-field performance, team owner David Tepper can relax in the knowledge he has the best people in the building to keep the franchise trending in the right direction.
Morgan approaches his work in the same way he launched himself into every down on the field. He is still regarded as one of the Panthers’ greatest-ever linebackers and who could forget his contribution to the team’s first-ever NFC championship and Super Bowl appearance.
Make no mistake, this is a real coup for Carolina.
Morgan has been at the heart of everything good in terms of recruitment in Buffalo in recent years, which coincided with the team finally wrestling the AFC East crown from the New England Patriots and almost toppling the Kansas City Chiefs in their divisional playoff finale in 2020.
If he can have a similar impact in familiar surroundings, then this can mean only good things for the Panthers.
Adding Morgan to a decision-making process that also includes Fitterer, Tepper, head coach Matt Rhule, and salary-cap guru Samir Suleiman is a tremendous asset to call upon. This sort of structure is a far cry from what we’ve seen in Carolina over the Marty Hurney and Dave Gentlemen eras and few would argue it isn’t a welcome change in their approach.
This is another building block to a thriving future for the Panthers. Morgan’s arrival makes the Panthers a front office powerhouse and if this transitions to the field, then legitimate contention for major honors shouldn’t be that far away.
