Carolina Panthers vs. New York Jets

This will be the one game Sam Darnold will want to win above all else. The quarterback was cast aside by the New York Jets this offseason in favor of BYU prospect Zach Wilson, who was taken No. 2 overall after the organization won two meaningless games at the end of the season to cost them a shot at Trevor Lawrence.

Darnold freely admits that the move made by the Jets stung a little bit. But in all honesty, this might be the best thing to ever happen to him.

He joins an organization in the Carolina Panthers that is heading in the right direction. More importantly, there is an abundance of weapons in the passing game to call upon and the small matter of an All-Pro running back alongside him in the backfield in Christian McCaffrey.

The former No. 3 overall selection out of USC wasn’t afforded such luxuries at MetLife Stadium with a distinct lack of talent and a head coach in Adam Gase who looked like the wrong appointment from his first bizarre press conference.

If the Panthers can get Darnold’s career back on the right track, then it’s going to have the biggest possible impact on a team that doesn’t appear to be that far away.

The Jets have enjoyed a fine first offseason with Robert Saleh at the helm. But looking good on paper doesn’t necessarily translate to improved performance on the gridiron and considering this game is at Bank of America Stadium, Carolina should fancy their chances.
