But whether Delano Hill can become Jeremy Chinn’s partner in 2021 is another matter entirely.

The Panthers obviously see something in Hill and nobody will know more about his attributes than Scott Fitterer, who worked with the player in Seattle. Carolina currently has Juston Burris atop the depth chart alongside Chinn, who is moving back to his preferred position after a phenomenal rookie season at outside linebacker in 2020.

Realistically speaking, it would be a surprise if Hill forced his way into the starting lineup during OTAs and training camp. His struggles in coverage have been there for all to see during his pro career so far and the player also has difficulty tackling in the open field on occasions.

With that being said, Hill could sneak his way onto the roster and provide valuable depth. He is also an experienced special-teamer that could be of use. So it’s a little too soon to be writing off his chances of making the team entirely.

What comes next will be ultimately down to Hill himself. Fitterer has clearly gone to bat for him to get the player to Carolina, but how he performs during team drills and integrates himself into the locker room will ultimately decide his fate.

As stated previously, getting a look at Hill doesn’t hurt. And there are some other avenues they can go down if the player fails to meet their expectations.
