Why the Carolina Panthers should rejoice if Julio Jones is traded

Julio Jones’ history vs. the Carolina Panthers
To say the Carolina Panthers will be glad to see the back of Julio Jones would be something of an understatement. The two-time All-Pro has enjoyed some phenomenal success over his career for the Atlanta Falcons against their NFC South divisional rival, with his unique blend of size, speed, and physicality making him almost impossible to cover when firing on all cylinders.
Who could forget his game against Carolina during the 2016 season?
Jones absolutely smoked the Panthers for 300 receiving yards and a touchdown, bringing in 12 receptions at a 25 yards-per-reception average for one of the finest individual performances from a player at the position in NFL history.
The wideout made his presence felt during what could be his final divisional clash in Carolina earlier this season. Although dealing with an injury, the future Pro Football Hall of Famer brought in seven of his 10 targets for 137 yards to help his team secure a 25-17 win on the road.
The Panthers’ problems within their secondary have been well documented over the years. They haven’t been able to solve the Jones riddle at any stage. But to be fair, they aren’t alone.
Jones on the trade block seemed unfathomable once upon a time.
It doesn’t seem to make much sense considering the Falcons placed their faith in Matt Ryan this offseason. But if he does end up playing elsewhere in 2021, the Panthers won’t be complaining a bit.
