Will Grier – Carolina Panthers QB

Even though he is heading into his third season in a professional environment, Will Grier remains something of an enigma. His rookie struggles when the quarterback was thrown to the wolves at the end of the 2019 campaign didn’t exactly inspire anybody with confidence and the coaching staff’s preference to use P.J. Walker in the backup spot most of the time in 2020 only heightened concerns surrounding his long-term future.

The Carolina Panthers drafted Grier in the third round, so they must have seen something in the former West Virginia star. However, the problem he has is neither Matt Rhule nor Scott Fitterer was around when they brought him on board and this leaves the signal-caller with his work cut out trying to establish himself.

Nobody is working harder than Grier, who has been right in the thick of workouts with teammates this offseason. Like Walker, he will get the chance to prove progress is being made when the Panthers participate in preseason games and he’ll need to show out in pursuit of changing the obvious perceptions.

There appears little chance of Grier seeing any competitive action during the regular season if everything goes to plan with Sam Darnold. So the Panthers would have a decision to make heading into the final year of his deal in 2022.
