Robby Anderson’s contract situation

One reason why the Carolina Panthers could potentially look to move Robby Anderson would be his contract situation. He is entering the final year of his deal in 2021 and another strong campaign of production is sure to cause some big problems for the organization next spring.

Anderson could be set for a megabucks deal in Carolina or elsewhere if he goes over four figures once again and boosts his touchdown tally. This is something the Panthers might not be able to accommodate considering they also have to pay the likes of D.J. Moore, Taylor Moton, and Donte Jackson in the immediate future.

The salary cap is expected to be north of $208 million in 2022, giving the Panthers $53.58 million in spare financial resources available, according to Over the Cap. There is the potential for even more once some players are cut ahead of time, but it would be a big surprise if they made Anderson’s deal a priority over someone like Moore.

If it’s a choice between the two, it’s an easy one to make.

Carolina would have let this situation play itself out and the player leaves for nothing under the previous regime. If the Panthers have recognized that they won’t be able to meet Anderson’s potential financial demands, then getting something back in return wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world by any stretch of the imagination.
