Although the Carolina Panthers appear to have plenty of strength on defense heading into the season, one potential weak link is just who is going partner Jeremy Chinn at the safety position.

Justin Burris appears to be getting another chance to prove himself with a better option alongside him on the backend. But there is no guarantee this is going to work out judging by the player’s performances in 2020.

If the Panthers decide to go down the trade route for a potential upgrade, then Landon Collins is a name that should come up in conversations. The Washington Football Team would save a whopping $12.7 million if they traded the Pro Bowler after June 1, which might be too tempting to turn down considering what he’s owed on his deal in 2022.

It’s easy to forget that Collins is still just 27 years old. He didn’t enjoy the best of seasons in 2020, but he is a former All-Pro that would legitimize what the Panthers are trying to build on the defense side of the ball.

There’s just no telling what such a stable presence will do for Chinn’s production, which is another intriguing element to this situation that shouldn’t be overlooked.

A safety tandem of Collins and Chinn is a mouth-watering proposition and one that could take Carolina’s defense to the next level.
