4 potential trades the Carolina Panthers could make after June 1
By Dean Jones
Bradley Roby – CB
- 2021 team – Houston Texans
There has been a substantial amount of player turnover where the Houston Texans are concerned this offseason. They are working with a completely revamped roster in a bid to turn around their fortunes, even if this does mean they could be moving on without star quarterback Deshaun Watson in the process.
Another who might not be around much longer is Bradley Roby.
The talented cornerback voiced his displeasure with the previous regime to such an extent he was left out of their Week 9 trip to the Jacksonville Jaguars for disciplinary reasons, and it would save the Texans $9.14 million on their salary cap if they found a willing trade partner after June 1.
The Carolina Panthers don’t necessarily have a need at cornerback thanks to the arrivals of A.J. Bouye, Jaycee Horn, and Keith Taylor Jr. this offseason. However, if someone like Roby would become available at the right sort of price then they’d be foolish not to at least consider the possibility.
There is no guarantee Taylor, Troy Pride Jr., or Stantley Thomas-Oliver can make an impact in 2021. Bouye is also missing for the first two games through suspension and there is Donte Jackson’s impending contract situation to consider.
This would be a surprising move, of that there is little doubt. But the Panthers have already shown a desire to go bold with their decision-making under Scott Fitterer, Matt Rhule, and team owner David Tepper.
