There were plenty of salary-cap casualties throughout the NFL this offseason. While it was to be expected in the current financial climate, it means that plenty of productive veterans remain unsigned and something the Carolina Panthers can take advantage of once they tie up their remaining draft selections.

The Panthers needed a significant makeover at linebacker this offseason. Luke Kuechly’s retirement was deeply felt in the first season without the perennial All-Pro manning the second level, with Tahir Whitehead’s production proving to be a weak link before he was eventually removed from the lineup.

Denzel Perryman’s arrival in free agency should help enormously. But there isn’t much in the way of depth behind him and this is something Carolina might look to rectify before they take the field for training camp.

Someone like Kwon Alexander is worth a look.

He is a former Pro Bowler with bags of experience and although the former LSU star suffered some injury problems following his trade to the New Orleans Saints, there is nothing to suggest he cannot bounce back and make a real difference.

Alexander is versatile, athletic, and aggressive. These are traits that the Panthers clearly love in all their new recruits and he might be willing to take a deal similar to the money they recently accumulated with Tre Boston’s departure.
