3 benefits to the Panthers extending Robby Anderson in 2021
By Dean Jones
Continuity
There has been plenty of comings and goings over the last two years on the Carolina Panthers. This is something that we normally see with teams in transition, even though it has left the roster almost unrecognizable from the days of Ron Rivera.
Change is always difficult to cope with.
Even if it is for the greater good.
What comes next for the Panthers will obviously be of critical importance. Team owner David Tepper will not tolerate losing football for much longer, so it’s vital Matt Rhule’s men show progression and turn quality performances into wins in 2021.
Robby Anderson is an important part of their plans, at least in the short term. But what happens beyond this season is unclear and Carolina could be set to lose their second dynamic weapon in as many offseasons after Curtis Samuel bolted for the Washington Football Team in 2020 free agency.
If the Panthers extended Anderson, it would keep continuity that’s been sorely lacking.
The former undrafted prospect has also formed a close relationship with D.J. Moore, which has led to the duo becoming one of the league’s most productive duos despite the inconsistent production of Teddy Bridgewater last time out.
Sam Darnold is now under center, which could benefit Anderson more than most.
Chopping and changing the roster so much is a recipe for disaster more often than not, so extending Anderson before he takes the field Week 1 against the New York Jets might be something to consider.
