3 reasons the Panthers should put in a waiver claim for Jamie Newman

The Carolina Panthers should go to the waiver wire and pick up quarterback Jamie Newman after he was released by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Although the Carolina Panthers got their hands on Sam Darnold from the New York Jets this offseason, they might also want to examine the possibility of acquiring an inexperienced prospect they could potentially use as a development project.
This is something the Panthers explored following the 2021 NFL Draft when they took a look at Northwestern product Peyton Ramsey during rookie minicamp, even though the signal-caller didn’t do enough to secure a longer-term commitment from the organization.
However, one name that might enter their thoughts following a surprisingly recent development is Jamie Newman. The talented player surprisingly went undrafted before being snapped up by the Philadelphia Eagles, but they placed him on the waiver wire on Wednesday to throw his NFL future in doubt.
Someone is going to take a chance on Newman, perhaps even with a waiver claim.
And the Panthers might be wise to also throw their hat into the ring.
Matt Rhule and the coaching staff got a good look at Newman during their time at the 2021 Senior Bowl, where the quarterback looked rusty after so long away from the gridiron following his decision to opt-out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 health concerns.
If they were impressed enough, then it might see them bring him in for training camp and seeing for themselves just what he can do in a professional environment.
With that being said, here are three reasons why Carolina should put in a claim for Newman.
