Morgan Fox – Carolina Panthers DL

  • 2021 cap hit – $2.49 million

It didn’t take a genius to figure out what the biggest priorities for the Carolina Panthers were this spring before the NFL Draft.

Find a new quarterback.

Improve the defense.

Mission accomplished in difficult circumstances, although just how Sam Darnold is going to perform will obviously determine just how far the Panthers can go next season.

One eye-catching signing that has gone relatively overlooked is Morgan Fox. The versatile defensive lineman has a significant amount of upside and there could be even more to come from a player who gained six sacks last season for the Los Angeles Rams.

Fox can operate on the edge as a defensive end or on the interior as a three-technique in obvious pass-rushing situations. Carolina lost a similar player in Efe Obada when he signed for the Buffalo Bills in free agency, so this fills and potentially even upgrades their options.

A notable feature of Fox’s game is energy. His motor is absolutely relentless and the Colorado State-Pueblo product is progressing all the time in terms of technique.

It’s easy to forget that Fox is still just 26 years old, so the scope for further improvement is great. There should also be plenty of space for the player to work in with the amount of talent across the front seven, so this $2.49 million cap hit in 2021 might just be a steal.
