Keeping Curtis Samuel around was a virtual non-starter for the Carolina Panthers in free agency. The wide receiver produced the best numbers of his career at just the right time and considering the team needed to place the franchise tag on stud right tackle Taylor Moton, it left them looking elsewhere for alternative options.

Samuel eventually chose the Washington Football Team and a reunion with former head coach Ron Rivera. But the Panthers did not wait around to secure his potential replacement.

General manager Scott Fitterer went back to his old employers to sign David Moore from the Seattle Seahawks on a two-year, $4.75 million deal that comes with a cap hit of just $1.61 million in 2021.

This has the scope to be yet another shrewd bit of business from Carolina’s point of view and far cheaper than it would have cost to keep Samuel on the books long term.

Moore put together some notable highlights during his time with the Seahawks and was a trusted target of star quarterback Russell Wilson.

He has no trouble stretching the field and can assist over short to intermediate routes when needed, so there is a lot to like about his chances providing his transition to a new scheme is a smooth one.

There are plenty of mouths to feed within the Panthers’ passing attack. But it would be a big shock if Moore didn’t generate his fair share of targets.
