Carolina Panthers trade offer No. 1
As stated previously, the goalposts have now moved regarding a potential trade for Deshaun Watson. His current legal predicament means his clean-cut character is now in question, which is sure to drive the price down considerably as teams become warier of any complications moving forward.
The Carolina Panthers clearly wanted to do everything in their power to bring Watson on board, which would turn them from also-rans to immediate Super Bowl contenders with the young talent on their roster.
They have also proven more than willing to take chances on players who may have some character concerns to contend with, confident the structure of their locker room can keep them on the right path.
This is something we saw during the draft with the selections of Daviyon Nixon and Shi Smith. If Sam Darnold doesn’t reach the necessary targets in 2021, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Panthers go back in for Watson if everything off the field settles in a satisfactory fashion.
General manager Scott Fitterer’s powers of negotiation was there for all to see during the draft and the Texans might not have as much leverage as they did earlier this offseason.
They also have a potential quarterback of the future in Davis Mills, so offering two first-round picks might be enough to get the job done this time around.
