Jaycee Horn will not be the instant star Carolina Panthers’ fans are hoping for
Now to the part of the article where many of you will disagree with me.
Jaycee Horn is not going to be the star shutdown cornerback that Carolina Panthers fans are hoping for. At least, not this season.
I love Horn as a player. But I believe he will be burned a lot early this season and it will take him at least a year to become a productive player.
Having watched Horn at South Carolina one couldn’t help but notice him. He lept off the screen when you watched them play defense which is a high compliment considering the amount of talent on the Gamecocks’ defense.
Let’s be clear here, I believe Horn is going to be a solid player and a future corner No. 2 or 3 for many seasons to come.
This prediction isn’t saying Horn will be a complete bust. However, it acknowledges the fact the rookie is joining a division where he will be expected to guard Calvin Ridley, Michael Thomas, Antonio Brown, Chris Godwin, and Mike Evans right from the word go.
A daunting proposition, to put it mildly.
Horn isn’t going to be ready for this level of competition and will struggle mightily early for the Panthers before settling into his role. A supporting role for a great athlete, not a shutdown corner.
