5 Panthers players who didn’t help their roster chances at OTAs
By Dean Jones
Reggie Bonnafon – Carolina Panthers RB
The Carolina Panthers bringing in T.J. Yeldon for a tryout during mandatory minicamp could be down to the coaching staff not completely liking what their saw from other running backs. Christian McCaffrey has been lighting it up as expected and fourth-round pick Chuba Hubbard seems to have settled well. But the rest all have questions that need to be answered.
One such player is Reggie Bonnafon. He was a shock exclusion from the roster last year when many expected him to be the primary backup to McCaffrey, which left him on the practice squad and later on the roster before going down with an injury.
Bonnafon has much work to do in the coming weeks. He’ll need to stand out more than most given he didn’t do enough to make the team initially in 2020, which might be easier said than done considering what he’s going up against.
What’s vital for Bonnafon is that he makes full use of any carries that come his way in the preseason. Doing it at scrimmages is one thing, but catching the eye on the field is something that makes all the difference.
Bonnafon has a mountain to climb to get back into the Panthers’ plans. But judging by the player’s character, it’s a challenge he is sure to give his all in pursuit of success.
