Robby Anderson – Carolina Panthers WR

Robby Anderson remains an integral part of the plans on offense for the Carolina Panthers. Whether that is still going to be the case after the 2021 season is another matter entirely.

The wide receiver emerged as so much more than a deep threat following his decision to leave the New York Jets in free agency and link up once again with his former college coach Matt Rhule. This was a tremendous move that was mutually beneficial, with Anderson going over 1,000 yards for the first time in his career and forming a lethal tandem with D.J. Moore.

Anderson alleviated any concerns about a hold-out by showing up to mandatory minicamp after skipping voluntary OTAs. Next year is a big one for the player as he looks to produce the sort of numbers that convince Carolina or someone else that he is worthy of a lucrative contract extension in 2022.

This represents a real problem for the Panthers.

They have to pay the likes of Brian Burns, Moore, and stud right tackle Taylor Moton sooner rather than later, so those in power would need to do some substantial maneuvering to free up enough funds to make Anderson an acceptable offer.

Whether this is a scenario that plays out is up for debate. But the smart money would be on Anderson and Carolina parting ways if another team makes him a top priority in free agency next spring.
