Justin Burris – Carolina Panthers S

It was something of a surprise that Juston Burris was given a reprieve by the Carolina Panthers this offseason. The front office decided to release Tre Boston instead to make room for Jeremy Chinn on the backend, which is an opportunity the former Cleveland Brown has to make the most of when competitive action begins.

Burris had some nice moments during the early part of the season. A rib injury midway through the campaign did him absolutely no favors and it clearly hampered his ability to make the same sort of contribution down the stretch.

The Panthers don’t have much in the way of depth at safety, which is another strong indicator of their belief that Burris can turn things around with Chinn alongside him. If he cannot manage to raise his game accordingly, then Carolina will ultimately move in a different direction next spring.

This is the last-chance saloon for Burris.

And his starting career in the NFL probably depends on it.

Carolina’s defense has the potential to do some real damage in 2021 with the weapons at Phil Snow’s disposal. The last thing Burris will want is to become the weak link and this added sense of urgency could be all the player needs to make more of an impression.
