Carolina Panthers let Efe Obada walk

There was a lot to like about the progression demonstrated by Efe Obada in 2021. The defensive lineman really came on strong during the second half of the campaign, generating some significant pressure both from the edge and as a three-technique on the interior.

This came with a career-high 5.5 sacks from the Nigerian-born player. But it was not enough to earn a longer commitment from the Carolina Panthers this spring.

The decision-makers opted to let Obada test the free-agent market, which resulted in the player becoming the latest former Panther to join the Buffalo Bills.

Considering the money he signed for, it was strange Carolina didn’t pick this option.

They did strengthen their defensive front with the arrivals of DaQuan Jones, Morgan Fox, Daviyon Nixon, Phil Hoskins, and Haason Reddick. This should make them a force to be reckoned with, but not having such a lively and progressive figure such as Obada on the books might be felt in big-time moments.

Only time will tell, obviously.

Obada has a real shot at winning a Super Bowl with the Bills in 2021 that is now going to take priority. If he can get his hands on a ring, it would be the perfect end to what is an incredible rags to riches story where the player is concerned.
