Carolina Panthers haven’t tied down Taylor Moton yet

There is still time for the Carolina Panthers to get Taylor Moton tied down long-term.

And it’s something they simply have to do at all costs.

The former second-round pick has been a model of consistency over the last three years, emerging as one of the league’s best right tackles with a series of exceptional displays against some of the most prolific pass-rushers in the business.

There is nothing flashy about Moton.

He works hard, is a flawless performer, and gets the job done.

Carolina utilized the franchise tag to prevent Moton from being tempted by a bumper deal from another team in free agency. This was an absolute no-brainer for the organization and although it resulted in Curtis Samuel leaving for the Washington Football Team, it was a necessary sacrifice to keep their best protector around.

That was the first step.

Extending him for the foreseeable future is arguably more important and has to be done before things get a little more complicated down the line.

Both sides are reportedly keen on doing a deal, which is good news. Moton stated he wouldn’t mind playing next year on the tag, but another step-up in production will undoubtedly see his asking price go through the roof.

This is a precarious situation and one the Panthers need to get right. However, it does seem strange that nothing has happened as yet.
