What exactly do the Carolina Panthers have at defensive tackle heading into a critical 2021 season for the organization?
It’s been an exciting offseason of recruitment for the Carolina Panthers as they look to secure their first winning record since 2017 next season. General manager Scott Fitterer was thrown in at the deep end following his appointment from the Seattle Seahawks, maneuvering extremely well in difficult circumstances to upgrade the roster considerably.
This is especially prevalent on the defensive side of the ball. Carolina now has an abundance of young talent mixed with some veteran quality, which could make all the difference from Phil Snow’s scheme standpoint when competitive action gets underway.
The Panthers progressed well on defense last time around – especially over the second half of the campaign. If the new arrivals can all make contributions, then this has the potential to be a top-10 unit due to the dynamic way they impact proceedings on any given down.
Hopes are high for the defensive front in 2021. The Panthers allocated most of their free-agent funds on this area of the field and if this comes with improved run defense and more consistent pressure, the sky is the limit.
Defensive tackle is where it all starts. This is the anchor from which a successful defense is founded and fortunately for Carolina, they have plenty going for them in this crucial area of the field.
