5 surprising candidates to make the Panthers 53-man roster in 2021

Spencer Brown – Carolina Panthers RB
The running back room is pretty full where the Carolina Panthers are concerned. Led, of course, but the league’s best dual-threat player in Christian McCaffrey.
Outside of McCaffrey and perhaps fourth-round pick Chuba Hubbard, there could be an extra couple of spots up for grabs for someone that impresses during the preseason and training camp.
One player who’ll be looking to make a name for himself is Spencer Brown, an undrafted free agent out of UAB that has drawn praise from McCaffrey for his contribution during team drills early on.
Brown’s college career saw him attain 4,011 rushing yards and 41 touchdowns over a four-year period that spanned 47 games. He is a physical runner that loves nothing more than absorbing contact, even though he lacks what could be described as elite quickness or athleticism normally associated with backs at the next level.
That being said, Browns’s vision and ability to find the end zone are first class. He also displays an eye-catching technique when it comes to pass blocking, which is another potential impact that cannot be ignored.
It does appear as if Reggie Bonnafon, Trenton Cannon, and Rodney Smith are ahead of him currently. But write Brown off at your peril.
