What are some realistic goals for Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey during the 2021 season?

For the first time in his young career, there are some questions surrounding Christian McCaffrey. Not from those in and around the Carolina Panthers, but some in the national media have obviously forgotten what the running back is capable of after a 2020 season where he featured in just three games.

There is a strong sense of motivation and anticipation surrounding McCaffrey‘s return to full health. The Panthers will once again be counting on the All-Pro heavily to lead from the front, even though it would be smart to take some of the pressure off by distributing carries and targets elsewhere.

This gives the Panthers and McCaffrey the best chance to preserve his health.

Another campaign of injury frustrations will see plenty of criticism come Carolina’s way for giving the player a four-year, $64 million deal with a $21 million signing bonus and $38 million guaranteed, although he was more than deserving of it at the time.

If he stays on the field, McCaffrey is almost unstoppable when firing on all cylinders.

The former first-round pick was still putting up exceptional numbers when on the field last time around. It was also eye-catching that the Panthers remained competitive against top teams in his absence.

The stakes are high for McCaffrey and Carolina in 2021. Here are four realistic goals the player can aim for when competitive action begins in Week 1 against the New York Jets.
