5 free-agent wide receivers who could replace Ventell Bryant at camp
By Dean Jones
Dede Westbrook
If the Carolina Panthers want to use this situation to potentially bring in another veteran, then Dede Westbrook represents an intriguing option with some upside.
Things didn’t go according to plan for the player in 2020 with the Jacksonville Jaguars thanks to injury. This was a real disappointment as it looked like Westbrook was generating some real momentum despite the lack of consistent quarterback play during the 2019 campaign.
The former fourth-round pick accumulated 160 receptions for 1,720 receiving yards and nine touchdowns over 40 stars in Jacksonville, which wasn’t enough to earn an extended stay with a new regime led by Urban Meyer opting to take their chances elsewhere.
Westbrook has more going for him than most players still sitting on the free-agent market.
Providing he has fully recovered from the knee injury that restricted him to just two games last time out, the Panthers could bring him in as another camp body that could end up making the 53-man roster with a smooth transition to a new scheme.
Someone with Westbrook’s talent is going to get another shot at some stage. Carolina might just give him the chance sooner than expected if they decide to cut Ventell Bryant loose after his recent suspension.
