5 free-agent wide receivers who could replace Ventell Bryant at camp
By Dean Jones
Golden Tate
Golden Tate is someone who comes with a significant amount of production under his belt. The wideout has carved out a successful career for himself that’s spanned 11 years so far and he hasn’t shown a willingness to give up another go-around just yet.
Tate recently listed a number of teams he’d be excited about joining. Although the Carolina Panthers weren’t on this list, that doesn’t mean the former Notre Dame star wouldn’t jump at the chance to sign for a talented young roster that is trending in the right direction.
This could work out well for the Panthers. Tate is an elusive weapon to call upon out of the slot and can also make his presence felt in the return game should the opportunity arise.
His role dipped significantly on the New York Giants in 2020, coming with just 52 targets from 15 games – four of which Tate started. Father time waits for no man, obviously, but there might still be something left in the tank where the 2010 second-round pick is concerned.
It wouldn’t hurt Carolina to get a better look at Tate to see what he might offer.
The veteran might also be willing to accept less money just to get a shot at making an NFL roster ahead of the campaign. So it also makes sense from a financial standpoint.
