Carolina Panthers depth chart: Safeties

  • Jeremy Chinn, Juston Burris, Sam Franklin, Myles Hartsfield (DB).

Moving Jeremy Chinn back to his preferred position of safety could lead to some improved production on the backend. The Southern Illinois product made an incredible impact as a rookie despite boasting little experience as an outside linebacker, so hopes are immensely high for the player in Year 2 with the Carolina Panthers.

Chinn will still get the freedom to roam around the field and make plays.

Taking away this instinctive approach to almost every down where the second-round pick is concerned would be detrimental. It’s vital for others around him to perform so that he doesn’t feel obliged to become more rigid.

Juston Burris is sure to play a big part in this. Last year’s free-agent signing started well before a rib injury halted momentum, which he was unable to get back during a disappointing end to the campaign.

If Burris can enhance his consistency with Chinn alongside him, it going to be a solid foundation from which to build as Carolina goes in search of their first winning record since 2017.

The Panthers depth chart doesn’t have much behind Chinn and Burris. Sam Franklin exceeded expectations for an undrafted free agent in 2020 and should progress, with Myles Hartsfield’s versatility something that could be of use across the secondary.
