Denzel Ward – CB

There’s just no telling which way it’s going to go with Donte Jackson after this season. The Carolina Panthers would be wise to keep him around with a strong campaign that’s free of injury, although they’ve been more than willing to let top cornerbacks go in the past if the money isn’t right.

Hopefully, that won’t be the case with Jackson, who looked like a shutdown corner once his turf toe fully healed after the Week 13 bye.

But if the worst happens and the LSU product takes his chances elsewhere, the Panthers need to come up with a contingency plan to replicate his production.

Someone like Denzel Ward is an ambitious move, but potentially worth considering. The Cleveland Browns have plenty of talent they’ll need to extend in the not-too-distant future and this could mean the former No. 4 overall selection is some way down the pecking order despite a superb career so far.

Acquiring players like Ward doesn’t normally come cheap.

However, if Jackson bolts and A.J. Bouye isn’t brought back, this once again becomes an area of need for the Panthers.

Ward has missed 11 games over his first three seasons in the league, which is a concern. Even if the supreme talent and consistency are there for all to see.
