Ventell Bryant – Carolina Panthers WR

Things were always going to be difficult for Ventell Bryant as the wide receiver looks to make the Carolina Panthers this summer. But his recent suspension for the first two games of 2021 only diminishes his chances at training camp.

Bryant violated the NFL Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse at a crucial stage of the offseason. Players should be focusing their attention on what promises to be a grueling few weeks before their Week 1 opener against the New York Jets, not facing the wrath of the coaching staff before a scrimmage has taken place.

It was a long shot for Bryant to make the roster anyway, in all honesty. The Panthers remain loaded at wide receiver despite Curtis Samuel’s departure, with the likes of Terrace Marshall Jr., Shi Smith, and free-agent signing David Moore set to fill the void.

The former Temple star left college as their all-time leading receiver, but he hasn’t found life as easy at the next level.

Bryant hasn’t played a competitive down on offense since his days with the Dallas Cowboys in 2019. Although a reunion with Matt Rhule was the best possible option for him, it wouldn’t be the biggest shock in the world to see the Panthers cut him loose and give someone else a chance.

Everybody makes mistakes. Had Bryant been a prominent member of the roster, there might be a little more leeway coming his way.

But that is simply not the case.
