What each Carolina Panthers rookie will struggle with during 2021
By Dean Jones
Thomas Fletcher – Carolina Panthers LS
- Beating out the established veteran.
The Carolina Panthers raised some eyebrows when they selected Alabama’s long-snapper Thomas Fletcher in the sixth round. His arrival to the organization is going to bring an anticipated training camp battle as the rookie looks to beat out J.J. Jansen to the starting job.
Jansen is the team’s longest-serving player and still performed at a high level in 2020. However,. father time waits for no man and the Panthers obviously thought Fletcher was capable of filling the void long term.
Beating out Jansen is no guarantee and it’s easily the biggest challenge Fletcher faces during his rookie campaign.
Phil Hoskins – Carolina Panthers DT
- Establishing himself on a stacked defensive front.
A large task is awaiting Phil Hoskins this season. The seventh-round pick has to carve out some sort of role for himself on a defensive front that is loaded with playmakers. Something he might struggle to do unless his transition to the next level is a smooth one.
Hoskins is hard not to love. His talent is matched by a charismatic personality that has already won over the team’s loyal fanbase.
That counts for nothing when it’s time to get down to business on the field. And it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that Hoskins has his work cut out trying to attain meaningful reps in 2021.
