Will Grier’s time on the Carolina Panthers roster hasn’t gone according to plan, but could there be a trade market for the quarterback this offseason?

Things are about to get very interesting for the Carolina Panthers roster at training camp. The competition for places will be as hot as the weather and who shows out during scrimmages, drills, and preseason games could make all the difference no matter where certain individuals are placed on the depth chart.

It will also tell us plenty about what to expect from the Panthers in 2021. They are rolling with a new quarterback in Sam Darnold, who comes with feast or famine possibilities and if things go according to plan, Carolina might have found their long-term successor to Cam Newton after failing miserably with Teddy Bridgewater last season.

This is obviously bad news for Will Grier and his chances of being a starter. The former third-round pick hasn’t had the best of luck during his brief career so far and it’s likely he’ll be fighting for backup opportunities with P.J. Walker once again.

Carolina Panthers roster doesn’t really need Will Grier.

However, if Grier takes advantage of the reps that come his way in the preseason, it might see his trade interest grow as a result. This is something the signal-caller might welcome considering what’s transpired in Carolina so far and if the Panthers get a draft pick in return, they’ll no doubt pull the trigger.

This would make Walker the primary backup, which is where he is best suited. Carolina would need a contingency plan in this eventuality from the free-agent market before giving any Grier trade the green light.

With this in mind, here are four teams who might consider trading for Grier if he catches the eye during preseason contests.
