4 teams that could trade for Panthers QB Will Grier this offseason
By Dean Jones
Jacksonville Jaguars
There is no doubt who the new king is on the Jacksonville Jaguars. The organization struck gold when they secured the No. 1 overall pick in 2021, leaving them with a can’t-miss opportunity to select Trevor Lawrence.
The former Clemson sensation is widely regarded as the best quarterback prospect to enter the league in a generation. Lawrence has every attribute one could imagine where prolific signal-callers are concerned and it would be a big shock if he didn’t lead the Jaguars back to prominence in the coming years.
This leaves Gardner Minshew on the outside looking in despite some encouraging games last season. Jacksonville will likely move him via trade before the campaign if they get a decent offer, meaning the team will be short of options behind Lawrence.
The Carolina Panthers roster would be in a similar position if they move Grier. But a trade would cost the organization just $205,545 in dead-cap money so those in power would have more than enough to bring in a viable replacement.
Grier is a firm believer that he can be a starting-caliber quarterback at the next level. He wouldn’t get much of a chance to prove this in Jacksonville thanks to the presence of Lawrence, so the West Virginia product would be back to square one in this eventuality.
