Chuba Hubbard – Carolina Panthers RB

Mike Davis was the hottest name on the fantasy football waiver wire in 2020 when Christian McCaffrey ended his iron man streak and was forced to miss some considerable time.

Hopefully, the same doesn’t happen again to the star running back. But adding intriguing first-year-pro Chuba Hubbard to your roster just in case could be a smart route to go down.

Hubbard was selected in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers after Davis left in free agency for the Atlanta Falcons. He arrives at the next level with a significant amount of upside and providing his transition goes smoothly, the Oklahoma State product could see plenty of touches regardless of whether McCaffrey is healthy or not.

The Panthers are going to do whatever it takes to keep McCaffrey fresh. If that means taking some of his touches away, then so be it.

At the very least, Hubbard is worth a late-round flier in fantasy drafts. Should you be fortunate enough to get the No. 1 pick in your league and draft McCaffrey, then locking down the rookie as a handcuff is absolutely essential.

There is a lot to like about the skills Hubbard brings to the table. His production isn’t going to be jaw-dropping behind McCaffrey, but this will be a different story if the All-Pro gets hurt at any stage.
