Jaycee Horn – Carolina Panthers CB

This is yet another lofty goal for Jaycee Horn to aim for as he gets set to embark on his NFL journey.

The Carolina Panthers are hoping they’ve got the next great shutdown cornerback on their hands after taking the South Carolina product No. 8 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, despite the obvious temptation to acquire quarterback Justin Fields after he fell into their laps.

Horn knows what is expected. The rookie will be given a lot of responsibility from his first snap in 2021 and providing he hits the ground running, there is a lot to like about his potential.

One thing that comes across where Horn is concerned is his willingness to work. Having all the physical attributes will only get a player so far in the NFL. They also have to want it.

Being the son of a former Pro Bowl wide receiver adds its own set of expectations. Horn will have a big bullseye on his back and first-year cornerbacks tend to struggle at times. But it would be a huge surprise if the player fell flat on his face given his skill set.

Should Horn reach or even exceed expectations in the coming years, the Panthers would be wise to give Horn whatever he wants when the two parties head to the bargaining table.

This is still some way off.

However, who knows what the salary cap will be by this point. If Carolina feels Horn is worth it, this deal might be a record-breaker when it’s all said and done.
