Although there isn’t much doubt that Andrew Sendejo is well past his prime, the Carolina Panthers could use another experienced safety that wouldn’t cost the earth to put on their depth chart heading into training camp following their decision to release Tre Boston ahead of time.

The Panthers brought in Ha Ha Clinton-Dix for a tryout during mandatory minicamp, which has come to nothing yet. If they decide to do the same for camp, then those in power could do far worse than look in Sendejo’s direction.

Sendejo was hit and miss on the Cleveland Browns in 2020. But there were some nice moments from the player as the team managed to reach the postseason.

Asking the veteran to come in and start would be unrealistic at this juncture. Especially as the Panthers have such high hopes for the tandem of Juston Burris and Jeremy Chinn in 2021.

However, there isn’t a great deal of quality behind the starting duo. Sendejo could provide a solid backup presence who is knowledgeable enough to slot in at a moment’s notice.

This would go away somewhat from the youth movement currently transpiring in Carolina. The front office might be happy to go with the likes of Sam Franklin and Myles Hartsfield as their backup options, but much will depend on how the undrafted free-agent duo progress this offseason.
