Marshall Newhouse – OT

  • 2020 team – Tennessee Titans

One position that could sue a makeover before competitive action begins in 2021 is at left tackle. Russell Okung wasn’t brought back thanks in no small part to unreliability, leaving the Carolina Panthers facing the prospect of utilizing Cam Erving as their primary blindside protector in the short term.

To say this doesn’t inspire confidence would be an understatement.

This has been a revolving door since Jordan Gross retired. Unless it’s sorted out sooner rather than later, the chances of real progression where the Panthers are concerned will be bleak.

One remaining free agent that could come in and do a job is Marshall Newhouse. The lineman is no stranger to Carolina having played for the team over 11 games in 2018. But there is a completely new regime in place now and the roster is almost unrecognizable from that time.

Newhouse was with the New England Patriots in 2019 and was part of the Tennessee Titans last season. The former fifth-round pick can play almost anywhere across the offensive line, which is something the Panthers absolutely love in almost any new recruit.

It wouldn’t hurt for Carolina to take a look at Newhouse and see if he still has something left in the tank. He’s been a solid if not spectacular performer throughout his career, but the lineman might be on a par with or even better than what the Panthers have at their disposal currently.
