Tahir Whitehead – Former Carolina Panthers LB

  • 2020

This is the most recent player who makes it into our Hall of Lame. Tahir Whitehead was the man tasked with filling the void left by Luke Kuechly, who announced his shock retirement following the 2019 season after eight exceptional seasons with the Carolina Panthers.

A thankless opportunity, one could say.

But to say things went south quickly would be understating things ever so slightly.

Whitehead’s reunion with his former college coach Matt Rhule started off well at camp. He was made a team captain and imposed himself within a young locker room – two things that left plenty of reasons to be encouraged.

However, it didn’t take long before Whitehead’s dismal production began to surface.

His struggles in coverage were there for all to see and have been prevalent throughout his career. But it was Whitehead’s lack of conviction in run support that quickly became a weak link.

The Panthers finally removed Whitehead from the starting lineup midway through the season. Coincidentally, things then began to improve.

Whitehead wasn’t brought back in free agency, which wasn’t exactly surprising. The player is still looking for another opportunity elsewhere, which might not arrive once teams put on his film from 2020.
