6 remaining free agents with connections to Panthers GM Scott Fitterer

Shaquem Griffin – LB
- 2020 team – Seattle Seahawks
Although Shaquem Griffin spent minicamp with the Denver Broncos, the linebacker didn’t do enough to earn a deal with the organization and is still looking for a new home. This will undoubtedly arrive before the 2021 season begins, with the Carolina Panthers lacking a little bit of depth at the second level judging by their current options.
Griffin has overcome adversity to not only make it into the NFL. But his production for the Seattle Seahawks was was pretty solid in the limited time he saw on the field.
The Central Florida product also made his presence felt plenty on special teams – especially over his first two seasons in the league. So if the Panthers are looking for someone with more upside than most remaining on the free-agent market, bringing Griffin in and seeing what he can do could bring some benefits.
His story is an inspirational one.
Griffin doesn’t have a left hand after it was amputated at the age of four due to amniotic band syndrome, which is a birth defect.
This would have been enough to put off any aspiring hopes of a pro career in the NFL in normal circumstances, but he was put through the same drills as brother and Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Shaquil Griffin as a youngster and forged his way right up to the top of the ladder.
