5 Carolina Panthers players who’ll exceed expectations at training camp

Marquis Haynes – Carolina Panthers OLB
When one examines the options available to the Carolina Panthers on their front seven, it’s easy to see why Marquis Haynes is getting overlooked. He isn’t the biggest name out there and has been used as a rotational piece only during his career, but his production in 2020 could suggest there’s more to come if given the opportunity.
Haynes managed to generate some notable pressure over the second half of the season. In just 37 percent of the team’s defensive snaps, the player recorded four sacks, five quarterback hits, four tackles for loss, and 10 combined pressures.
What’s important for Haynes is that he builds on this positive momentum despite the competition for places becoming fiercer in recent weeks. Training camp will tell us plenty about what to expect from the Ole Miss product, so every rep will be important from his perspective.
There is also the small matter of Haynes’ contract situation to consider. The player is heading into the final year of his rookie deal, making it even more essential he shows out next season to convince those in power to offer him an extension.
Carolina would be worse off without Haynes on the rotation. Having dependability slightly lower down the depth chart always helps when the injuries and knocks start building up.
This bears additional significance with a 17-game campaign. So Haynes will be counted upon to produce the goods at some stage.
