Which Carolina Panthers players are firmly on the hot seat ahead of a crucial training camp in 2021?

Training camp at Wofford College in Spartanburg kicks off later this month. Something everyone associated with the Carolina Panthers won’t want to take their eyes off for a second.

This is the time of year where players make a name for themselves, win a roster spot, or are left facing a nervous wait until their fate is decided before Week 1. The Panthers have a lot on the line in the coming weeks with more expected of Matt Rhule and his squad in 2021, so getting off on the right foot is of paramount importance before competitive action begins.

It’s going to be hot and heavy at camp – both from a climate and intensity standpoint – so which players cope with it better and take chances when they come in the preseason might just have an advantage when those in power examine which individuals can assist Carolina’s chances of progression.

With this in mind, let’s take a look at five Panthers players who find themselves on the hot seat heading into camp.

J.J. Jansen – Carolina Panthers LS

For the first time in what seems like forever, J.J. Jansen is facing a real fight to make the team. This is down to the Panthers using a sixth-round draft pick on Thomas Fletcher, an accomplished long-snapper out of Alabama that arrives in the NFL with national championship-winning credentials.

Carolina didn’t select Fletcher without identifying him as the potential successor to Jansen. So the team’s longest-serving player might be facing an uphill battle if he wants to involve himself in 2021.

There’s nothing to suggest Jansen isn’t capable of this. But father time and the NFL waits for no man and it wouldn’t be a shock to see the Panthers part ways with the former Notre Dame star when it’s time to finalize the roster.
