Carolina Panthers offensive line problems

Of all the problems facing the Carolina Panthers prior to this offseason, the protection in front of the quarterback was right at the top. This is something that didn’t really get addressed with the urgency many expected, leaving more questions than answers surrounding the group heading into training camp.

It’s going to be interesting to see veterans and incoming college recruits jostling for positions on the depth chart. There appear to be just two cemented starters currently in stud right tackle Taylor Moton and center Matt Paradis, who hasn’t exactly been a model of consistency since arriving in 2019 free agency.

Camp always sees some surprises. Players step up to the fore while others wilt under pressure, which is something we’ll no doubt see in the stifling heat of Spartanburg where the Panthers are concerned.

One thing is for sure, getting the starters right is going to be crucial for Carolina’s coaching staff. There is also an opportunity for the organization to bring in someone who gets cut shortly before the campaign to further boost their options.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that Carolina needs to get better in this area of the field. If things don’t improve – and quickly – then expect Sam Darnold to go through the same struggles he experienced on the New York Jets.
