Frankie Luvu – Carolina Panthers LB

There doesn’t appear to be that much in the way of quality depth behind the projected starters at linebacker. So it’s a chance for Frankie Luvu to stamp his authority within the Carolina Panthers after arriving in free agency.

The former Washington State standout spent the first three years of his career with the New York Jets, generating six sacks and certainly looking the part on a rotational basis. Luvu is still just 24-years-old with his best football ahead of him, so there is a lot to like about his chances in Carolina with a smooth transition.

Luvu is a highly motivated individual that plays with aggressiveness and poise in equal measure. He is a strong communicator on the field and isn’t afraid to make his voice heard when things aren’t going the team’s way, which is another potential impact on a relatively young roster that shouldn’t be overlooked.

The Panthers have been blessed with some exceptional linebackers over the years.

Luvu doesn’t come into the organization with the elite traits of a Luke Kuechly or Thomas Davis. But Carolina won’t need that from him if Denzel Perryman, Jermaine Carter, and Shaq Thompson form a productive trio at the second level.

Luvu can make a difference from a backup role and perhaps even assist on special teams. This is sure to be a big help and exactly what the Panthers need at the present time.
