This is the most important position battle to watch and one the Carolina Panthers simply have to get right. For all the impressive moves made by the front office this offseason, there remains a real concern about just who’ll be protecting Sam Darnold’s blindside in 2021.

Carolina hasn’t had a dependable left tackle since Jordan Gross retired. That’s a long time to be without a top player at one of the more important positions on offense.

It’s hard to look at their current options with any sense of confidence. Cam Erving appears to be the favorite to secure the job despite his lack of production in recent years, with Trenton Scott also fancying his chances with a solid offseason to prepare.

This is a pivotal training camp for Greg Little and Dennis Daley. Two players who’ve not exactly hit the ground running during the early stages of their careers.

There is also the presence of Brady Christensen to consider. The third-round pick was an elite left tackle at BYU in college protecting Zach Wilson, but the Panthers value him more as a guard and might not consider him a left tackle possibility moving forward.

If things go as expected with the current players vying for this role, expect Carolina to look at bringing in additional help before Week 1.
