3 potential trade packages for the Panthers to land Marcus Maye
By Dean Jones
Which hypothetical trade packages could the Carolina Panthers put together to land stud safety Marcus Maye from the New York Jets?
It doesn’t appear as if Marcus Maye will be getting a long-term deal from the New York Jets before 2022 free agency. The organization was unable to get a deal done with the safety before the franchise tag deadline, leaving his future with the franchise in some serious doubt.
The Jets might be willing for Maye to play out the season and see where things stand from there. However, this is a team going through a pretty substantial rebuild and if those in power decide to cash in, then it might just see the player moved in the right scenario.
This is all just hearsay, obviously. But if this sort of situation presented itself, the Carolina Panthers would be on red alert.
Putting Maye on the backend with Jeremy Chinn is a mouth-watering proposition that would make the Panthers a force to be reckoned with. It might be enough to make Phil Snow’s defense among the league’s best if other positional groups demonstrate the progression expected.
Any team looking to acquire Maye via trade has to work out an extension with the player. There’s no point moving for him otherwise.
Carolina does have $24 million in spare salary-cap space, so they have more than enough to take on Maye’s tag figure and perhaps give him the sort of money he’s looking for.
With this in mind, we took a look at some hypothetical trade packages for the Panthers to land Maye from the Jets.
