It appeared as if Case Cookus was going to get a chance to make the Denver Broncos after impressing during rookie minicamp. However, his contract was terminated after just five days as the team moves forward with Drew Lock and former Carolina Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater in 2021.

Cookus was a phenom at Northern Arizona who put up some unbelievable numbers at the college level. This wasn’t enough for the player to get drafted in 2020 – but he did draw some comparisons to Jimmy Garroppolo during the evaluation process.

In terms of ever being an NFL starter, the future looks bleak for Cookus. However, the Panthers could make use of someone with his skill set at camp when it’s time for the three top options to get some rest.

This isn’t going to be a big commitment. And Cookus would need to do something truly astonishing to force his way into the team’s plans.

But there are some benefits to having someone with Cookus’ intangibles and obvious confidence around the place.

The Panthers will undoubtedly throw plenty of challenges Sam Darnold’s way at training camp and during preseason games. He needs to rid his game of some bad habits pretty quickly and there is a substantial amount of pressure on the No. 3 overall selection in 2018 to get things right.
